A: 1 of 2 things: 1. you were being a dick or 2. your uploads are unfunny. If you feel it was done in error or would like to appeal it, please email me with a THOROUGH explanation. If you misspell banned as "band" (this happens a lot actually) I'm not even going to read your claim, because that tells me how old you are.
A: Usually if you ask me this, I automatically assume you are an 8 year old trying to pin your actions on someone else. You are responsible for your own account.
A: I'm Derek. I run the app alone for funsies. I am the sole programmer behind it. I have users I appoint as staff to be my watchful eye when I am not present to run it.
A: If you're using a 4th gen ipod then there's your problem. Otherwise, if you could email me describing what you were doing that would help me fix it. I may even reward you if it leads to me fixing the problem.
A: Yes. Usually what happens 10/10 times is that people will register common names back when the app first launched and then maybe a week later abondon the account. If I see the account is abandoned, I will award you the username.
A: For reasons unknown to science, Apple doesn't natively support gif animations. There's nothing you can do about it. HOWEVER if you have a jailbroken device you can install an addon called Giffy in cydia. Comes from the xsellize repo.
A: Thanks, but I don't want your money. Just rate the app and I'll consider that a donation. Or you can email me saying how grateful you are of the app. It means a lot.
A: I started the app back in June 2011 or so. I couldn't get a job at any local fast food places so I decided to spend my summer home from college making an iPhone app.
6 months prior I had made another app called Space Phoenix inspired by the calculator game. It pretty much sucked, so I decided I'd make an app after what I enjoyed most - funny images and gifs from
around the Internet. There was no business model behind it, I wasn't making any money off of ads or stuff like that, just a little app where people could look at images. The other apps in the store
were shit so I'd figure I'd have my take at it. Things have always progressed slow, I've never advertised the app, it's always been a word of mouth thing. As of October 21, 2015 the app has been downloaded
over 2 million times and served some serveral thousand terabytes of images. I've met a lot of interesting people over the years. Hopefully I'll get to meet some of them in person and some of them I hope to never meet in person. I changed the name from
lol bucket to pictophile for "legal reasons". When I had chosen the name (derived from photobucket) I never knew the legal ins and outs of branding. After all, I'm a programmer, not a businessman. So
apparently someone else was actively using the name and they went waaaay out of their way to see that I changed the name, what I suspect was out of jealousy or greed, even hiring a lawyer and threatening me
to pay up some 80 grand for "damages" to a website that had no traffic. Well there wasn't a snow balls chance in hell of that happening, so with the advice of my own lawyer, I decided it was just fair
to admit that they had beaten me to the name and just change to something I could call my own. That's life though. You try and climb your way to the top only to have people try and pull you back down.
So now I have a "legal" app and make a little side money (I still have a day job), I don't make enough to quit my real job, but I'm getting there. I don't plan on taking on any kind of outside investments
from venture capitalism, it seems if I do that then the app only purpose would seem to be money.. and it shouldn't (just look at 9gag). Well there you have it, my mediocre journey from building a mediocre app.
Anything else, just email me. Even to just say hi.
